ICT tools in teaching learning process

The growth of communication technology, computer network systems and information technology and their integration offers unique opportunities for teaching and learning. The Information Communication Technology (ICT) has the prospective to transform process of teaching and learning environment.
In VAST TC, the classrooms are ICT enabled with projectors installed and the campus is enabled with high speed wifi connection. The faculty use various ICT enabled tools to enhance the quality of teaching-learning process.
Teachers utilize different multimedia tools like LCD projectors, portable PA systems and laptops to enhance the learning experience in classrooms. The PPTs are enabled with animations, graphics and pictures to improve the effectiveness of the teaching- learning process.In VAST TC 18 halls (classrooms and seminar halls) are permanently equipped with projectors and screens for illustrative teaching. Each department has their own laptop that can be utilized for conducting classes. Use of online tools like National Programs on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), Spoken Tutorials, SWAYAM, Coursera and MOOC are encouraged for advanced learning and understanding of subjects. Google classroom is used to manage and post course related information- learning material, evaluations and assignments.

Computing

The institution has 317 computers spanned across various laboratories, departments, and administrative offices and they are connected to the internet. The infrastructure incorporates both wired & wireless networks connecting all the building blocks of the college. The Institution has the Internet facility 20 Mbps from Airtel (Leased Line) & 20 Mbps from Asianet (Broadband). Available bandwidth is 40Mbps.

Facilities for Women

VAST TC is committed to provide a safe and secure environment for the academic and social growth of all the students. Irrespective of gender, all the students are given equal opportunities for their growth.


1. Safety and security
Safety of the women is ensured by the help of Surveillance CCTV cameras, installed in the campus for monitoring all. An efficient security crew is deployed across the college premises for any kind of security incidents/issues and offers strict vigilance. Details of visitors are kept in the security hub. Identity card is compulsory for all students and staff inside the campus.
2. Counselling
A lady professional counselor is available in the campus on all Tuesdays. Girl students feel comfortable to share their problems without any inhibitions.
3. Common Rooms
Separate Common rooms are provided for the boys and girls with basic facilities. Separate wash rooms for boys and girls are provided on every floor of the academic and laboratory blocks. Sick rooms are available with first aid box, beds etc. A doctor is available on all Fridays inside the campus and visits in emergency situations with short notice.

UPS

In order to cater the demands of uninterrupted power supply UPS of capacity 15 kVA, 10 kVA and 3 kVA are installed in the campus. The 15 kVA UPS of Unitech supplies power to South Block, 10 kVA UPS of Hykon supplies power to East Block and 3 kVA UPS of Hykon Supplies Power to server room.

Bio Gas Plant

Bio Gas plant of capacity 12 m3 is installed and commissioned by Welfare Services Ernakulam in campus aims at addressing the issue of disposal of waste from the canteen and other parts of the campus in an eco-friendly manner. The gas from the biogas plant is utilized for cooking purpose in the canteen thus limiting the use of fossil fuels.

Rain water harvesting system

Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) is a technology where surface runoff is effectively collected during yielding rain periods. The proper rain water management could minimize the water crisis. In VAST TC campus two rain water harvesting tank of capacity 1,60,000 liters and 50,000 Liters are available which is located at the South Block and the Ladies Hostel respectively.

Reprographic Center and Store

VAST TC has a co-operative store that provides textbooks, engineering drawing equipments and other stationery to students at concessional rates.

Hostel

VAST TC offers separate in-campus hostels are provided for men and women with spacious, well-furnished rooms. Common rooms offer TV, games, music, telephone, reading and internet facilities. Also provided are services of dining, laundry facilities and 24-hours security.

College Canteen

A canteen consists of a massive and hygienic kitchen and dining area which can accommodate up to 150 persons at a time and offers high-quality food at very affordable rates to students and faculty members.

Transportation

The college provides buses for students and faculty to commute from various locations. Buses from all important places within a radius of 50 Kms are provided for days scholars.
